How To Decorate Metal Cabinet?

Using decoupage material and wrapping paper, refinish a file cabinet. For added durability, use Hard Coat Mod Podge on your decoupage file cabinet!

Is it okay if I tell you something? These metal file drawers, which served as the foundation for this decoupage file cabinet project, may be found at your local Goodwill for a buck or two. In terms of workplace décor, they’ve gone the way of the rotary phone.

File Cabinet for Wrapping Paper

What’s the good news? YOU CAN MAKE SOMETHING TO DISPLAY IN YOUR OFFICE OR CRAFTS ROOM! Although Gunsgermssteel does not include directions for this file cabinet makeover, such a job is not difficult. Here’s how I’d go about it.

Obtains These Materials

(Yes, you’ll need a surface!) Metal file cabinet

Wrapping paper (not too thin or you’ll have a lot of difficulties) – enough to cover the amount of filing cabinet you have

-Scissors

-Knife and mat for crafts

-Primer should be sprayed.

-Sealant in a spray

-Mod Podge it up! Hard Coat is the product I suggest.

-Remove all of the hardware first. If there are no screws, you should be able to remove the item using a screwdriver.

Remove the drawers if possible.

Apply primer to the entire file cabinet, including the drawers. Krylon Spray Primer is a product I suggest. Keep in mind that you have two options at this stage. If you don’t care about the colour, you may spray the file with clear primer. Choose a coloured primer if you want the file to match the colour of your paper.

Arrange the wrapping paper on the table. If you want a consistent appearance, this is the perfect item to employ for this sort of job since you’ll receive the width you need for coverage. You may even use many sheets to create a layered decoupage effect!

BEFORE you decoupage, measure and cut the paper. This will take some time, but it will be well worth it! A craft knife, such as an X-Acto, is ideal. Remember to use a mat underneath! Allow a little extra to wrap around to the inside on the front sides.

Before decoupaging the wrapping paper, I would sprinkle it with water. This will reduce the amount of bubbling. Allow 15 minutes for the wrapping paper to dry.

Start decoupaging now! I’d use Mod Podge Hard Coat. It’s designed to be very robust for items like furniture. Working on one section at a time is the best way to go. Rather of putting Mod Podge to the surface, apply it to the paper. For me, this is the most effective method.

Using a brayer or even a ruler, smooth the paper. Be cautious, since many wrapping sheets are quite “terrible!” Allow 30 minutes for the paper to adhere to the file.

Apply at least two coats of Mod Podge to the exterior of the file. You have the option of gently sanding or not. I usually do, but the choice is yours!

Replace the hardware if necessary. Apply a couple coatings of sealant to the whole exterior of the file. Allow to dry completely before reinstalling and using the drawers.

I know it seems like I include a lot of stages, such as spraying, sealing, and so on. I’ll inform you that you may skip these stages, but for those that want more durability, I’ll always offer full instructions.

Let me promise you that if you follow these procedures, this decoupage file cabinet will outlast you!

Other Ways To Decorate You Metal Cabinet

Tape for ducts

Duct tape isn’t the same go-to, fix-it-all silvery substance it used to be. Tape comes in a variety of bright colours and patterns; combine them to make stripes, chevrons, or pixel-style art. Another advantage of duct tape is that it can transform even the most rusted and unsightly cabinet into a piece of beauty while also preserving it from additional damage. Spills on top of duct tape wash away quickly, resulting in a piece that may be used in every part of the home.

Fabric Makeover

Fabric hides a myriad of problems in an open-style cabinet with a back, or a cabinet with random stains and blemishes on the interior. Wrap a piece of attractive fabric around a piece of cardboard or foam core board cut to fit the cabinet’s bottom, side walls, or back wall, and tape it in place. Simply press it into the cabinet for an immediate interior makeover. Removable doors can also be covered with fabric after the door hardware is removed, then reinstalled for a more customised look.

Graphics, Decals, and Stencils

Vinyl decals designed for home decor instantly transform a metal cabinet. This transforms even a brand-new cabinet into a one-of-a-kind item. If you’d rather make your own art, use stencils or stamps to create designs on the cabinet, or paint designs with metal paints by hand. A grate, potato bag, or other item with holes can be used as a template for a new coat of spray paint, leaving an interesting two-toned pattern behind.

Hardware and Paint

Cabinets that look fine but aren’t available in the colour you want are common. To give them a fresh appearance, spray paint them with metal or textured colours. If the cabinet has drawers or doors, paint each one a lighter colour to create a faded or ombre effect. Replace drab handles with chic new hardware, or repaint the existing ones in a colour that complements the cabinets.

Conclusion

I hope you have learned something useful on this page. Metal cabinets are often overlooked, but they still have their place in today’s society. If you are feeling down about your metal cabinets, I’ve given you some solutions to turn that frown upside down!

These are the tips I can give you to decorate metal cabinet. It is not difficult especially if you have spare time and money on hand. You can do this . If I can do it, so can you! Just be patient and take some risk. After all, the rewards are worth your efforts!
