Hastelloy C276
A Hastelloy is an alloy consisting primarily of Nickel, Molybdenum, and Alloy. Hastelloy is a good alloy that is used for its great corrosion resistance. The Alloy additionally has several grades and each grade with different proportions of metals available.
Some grades often consist of Nickel, Chromium, Molybdenum, Alloys, etc. each grade of Hastelloy is made for a specific purpose. The chromiumshaped Hastelloy has a slight appearance as Stainless Steel. Just as SS is stronger even this alloy serves a wide purpose. The Hastelloy is stored in numerous forms, but mostly as Round Bars.
Hastelloy Round Bars have the size of 5mm to 500mm with a diameter ranging from 0.1mm to 100mm and length can be from 100mm to 1300mm and beyond. The general shape of bars is Round Bars, Square Bars, Flat Bars, Threaded Bars, Hollow Bars, Hexagonal Bars, Triangular Bars. The Chemical Composition of the Hastelloy includes Carbon at 0.010% maximum, 2.5% of Copper, Molybdenum up to 15-17%, Chromium between 14.5-16.5%, and a balanced amount of Nickel. The Ultimate Tensile Strength of Hastelloy is Psi – 1,15,000, MPa – 790, and Yielding Strength of Psi – 52000, MPa – 355, with elongation at 40%, and now the melting point of Hastelloy is set at 1370°C. The Hastelloy C276 Round bars have a tensile of 110 KSI and yield 52.6 ksi, with an elongation of 62% and this is specifically for bars. The bars, sheets, and pipes range the tensile between 105.4 to 115.5% and elongation between 60-70%.
Hastelloy C276 is a combination of Nickel, Molybdenum, Chromium, Alloy, and Tungsten is included to have very good corrosion resistance in a variety of harsh environments. There are several grades of Hastelloy, however, Hastelloy C-276 is by far the most widely used. The Hastelloy C276 has excellent resistance to corrosion even while oxidizing and reducing, and stress- corrosion cracking. The properties of Hastelloy make it immune to survive in marine environments. The flat bars of C276 can easily be welded, processed, and fabricated using standard methods.
Application of Hastelloy C276
The C276 alloy has great immunity against corrosion so it is mostly used in plants and industries. The Petroleum Refinery uses Hastelloy C276 round bars for making it into pipes and using it to convey the crude oil to the plant for converting it. The Boilers use C276 for outer covering because they can withstand steam and fluids or any substance. The pipelines use pipes made of Hastelloy C276 because they can survive water for a long period of time. Cooling towers also use this alloy because of its resistance against water and steam for the very same reason it is also used in making steam exhausts. The Electric Generation plants use C276 because it is compatible with electricity.
Paper Production, Waste Treatment, Pharmaceutical, and Food Processing equipment make use of Hastelloy C276 in all shapes and sizes. Accordingly, the Hastelloy C276 is used around the world for its immunity and strength. This way Hastelloy C276 has a variety of applications.
